Unique Partnerships

St. Elizabeth Healthcare logo
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine-NKU campus UK COM at NKU is housed on the NKU campus and accepts 35 medical students each year.  Many of these medical students received their undergraduate degrees at NKU, some of whom were accepted though the Early Assurance Program (EAP) at NKU as sophomores. This unique partnership with UK College of Medicine allows NKU students a head start in their medical education. Students accepted into the EAP have priority access to shadowing opportunities with St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Come take advantage of these partnerships just like Zoey did.

Supportive Learning Community

NKU provides a supportive learning community for students looking to prepare for medical school.  The Honors Pre-Med Learning Community one of several learning communities in the Honors College, allows students to interact with local medical professionals, to explore how information is communicated between medical experts and the public, and to gain experiences in the medical field. Additionally, the Health Professions Club (HPC) gives students insight into medical school preparation through the eyes of fellow students, chances to meet with representatives from medical school and physicians, and a chance to lead and serve other students. Brooke learned a lot through her leadership in the HPC.

Personalized Academic Preparation

NKU students can fulfill their medical school prerequisite courses as a Biology or Chemistry major, or they can chart their own path in a variety of other majors.  Dedicated instructors at NKU will guide you as you learn the material required to do well on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and to be prepared for medical school. NKU students can also take advantage of a discounted MCAT preparation course that has helped students raise their MCAT percentile scores an average of 24% after participating in the course.  Listen to how NKU helped Kendyl prepare.

Tailored Advising

NKU students receive guidance and mentoring on classes, MCAT preparation, service and shadowing, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation from specialized advisors as they prepare for medical school.  Dr. Michael Guy, head of the Pre-medical Pathways program and chair of the premedical review board (PMRB), serves as an additional resource to help and guide all NKU students planning to go to medical school. The PMRB consists of professors from biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and mathematics who will help you prepare your medical school application, and provide a composite letter of your qualifications for medical school.  Whether you choose to pursue medicine in an allopathic medical school or an osteopathic medical school, NKU can give you a successful start on the path! Allie experienced this guidance firsthand.
